Lebanon as alternative for South American grapes and avocados

August 22, 2022

According to an article on FreshPlaza in July 2022, Lebanon is turning into a serious potential option for the supply of table grapes and avocados to the European market.

The production of grapes and avocados is increasing sharply every year and a shift towards the varieties in demand in Europe is starting to show, says Piet Schotel, who supports growers in Lebanon as a consultant for CBI.

With a new packaging and cold storage facility the Lebanese Pack House in the Bekaa Valley now fully operational, products can be professionally packed and handled while benefiting quality certifications demanded by the markets. This will speed up exports to Europe but also to more distant destinations.

Together with the advantage of being closer to the European market than some of its competitors from South America, table grapes and avocados from Lebanon may find a growing market in Europe in the next few years.
